In the world of beauty, few products reach the status of icons or legends. Among so many options, it is not easy to distinguish yourself and create a lasting legacy. However, some classics have succeeded. Such is the case of the most iconic perfume, Chanel No. 5. A hundred years after its introduction, no fragrance evokes sophistication and elegance, like the one presented as the first by Chanel.
Chanel No 5 is quite a statement. Gabrielle Chanel’s vision was that a woman’s scent is as important as what she wears. And so it was that despite having the collaboration of the best perfumer of the time, it was not until the fifth attempt that the mixture conquered her. Hence the origin of the name of this fragrance. Of course, it also helped that Chanel considered five to be a lucky number and that her sign, Leo, is the fifth number of the zodiac.
An unforgettable moment for Chanel No. 5 was to consecrate herself as a symbol of sophisticated seduction when Marilyn Monroe, sex symbol of international fame, mentioned her affection for this perfume when asked What do you wear to sleep? A robe? Sleepwear? or a nightgown?, and she answered candidly, “Chanel No. 5 because that’s the truth,” says Monroe in a recording retrieved by Chanel.
This year Chanel celebrates the first 100 years of this perfume and presents as a tribute a collection of jewelry inspired by various elements of this fragrance and its bottle.
The collection, called The No 5 Collection, is compounded by 123 pieces of Haute jewelry and was created by the Chanel jewelry creation studio, inspired by the stopper, the bottle, the number, and the flowers used in the perfume.
The distinctive stopper inspired a ring in yellow gold, platinum, and onyx, in addition to the brooches and bracelets from the collection. In some creations, the motifs are less evident than in others in 55.55 necklace stands out by including the memorable figure of the Chanel bottle in intricate diamonds. It will be guarded at the Chanel Heritage House.
