Earlier this month, Automobili Lamborghini presented the Countach LPI 800-4: a futuristic limited edition that pays homage to the Countach’s iconic status by breaking the rules of revolutionary design and technology and is recreated for the 21st century.
Its purist lines are immediately recognizable with Countach’s legacy: the patriarch of modern supercars and Lamborghini design. The Countach LPI 800-4 retains the unparallel experience and sound of the V12 and its Longitudinal-mounted Posteriore (LP) engine combined with hybrid (I) technology. With 814 hp as its maximum combined power (rounded to 800 in the name) from its suction powerplant (780 hp) and electric motor (34 hp) to its permanent four-wheel drive transmission, the LPI 800-4 produces a Lamborghini top performance of 0-100 km / h acceleration in just 2.8 seconds, a 0-200 km / h in 8.6 seconds and a top speed of 355 km / h.
The Countach LPI 800-4 pays homage to this Lamborghini legacy, but it’s not hindsight – imagine how the iconic Countach from the ’70s and 80s could have evolved into an elite super sports car of this decade while keeping the tradition. Lamborghini explores new avenues of design and technology while celebrating the brand’s DNA. It is a Lamborghini that innately expresses the enduring and emotional power that distinguishes them: always inspiring and exciting to watch, hear and most of all, drive.
The distinctive silhouette of the Countach is of modern and innovative super sports design. The Countach LPI 800-4 has developed the signature lines of all five Countach models for nearly 20 years, focused on the purest realization of iconic automotive design. The final schematic is pure and uncluttered, with references to the early LP 500 and LP 400. It gives the LPI 800-4 a distinctive Countach face.
The inspiration for this model comes from the Quattrovalvole edition. Precise lines of the front hood with grille and long and low rectangular headlights, wheel arches with their hexagonal theme. The steep incline of the greenhouse adopts straight lines reminiscent of the original Countach. There’s no fixed rear spoiler outside of the clean lines, and the air intakes are seamlessly integrated into the car’s stable shoulders, adorned with Countach’s distinctive slatted “gills.” The iconic and aerodynamically potent NACA air intakes cut through the side while the Periscope lines running through the roof to the rear appear to float towards the back.
The rear of the Countach LPI 800-4 is immediately recognizable thanks to its distinctive inverted wedge-shaped design. The rear bumper, featuring a lower, sleeker line and the “hexagon” design that shapes the rear light clusters of three units.
Access for the driver and passenger is, of course, via the famous scissor doors, first introduced on the Countach and which have become a Lamborghini V12 icon.
The Countach developed the best available technologies to produce an exceptional car – this visionary philosophy is reflected in the Countach LPI 800-4, taking the pinnacle of current Lamborghini technologies and engineering to deliver the expected performance of a Countach in 2021.
The one-liter engine -with a power of 780 hp- is combined with a 48-volt electric motor mounted directly on the gearbox, giving an additional 34 hp for immediate response and increased performance. It is the innovative and unique architecture that Lamborghini developed, the only hybrid technology to create a direct connection between the electric motor and the wheels, preserving the pure behavior of the V12. The electric motor gets charged by a supercapacitor that provides three times more power compared to a lithium-ion battery of the same weight.
Visible exterior carbon fiber features are available on the front splitter, around the front window and rearview mirrors, engine hoods cover air intakes and rocker panels, and in specific interior details. Air vents produced by state-of-the-art 3D printing technology and a photochromatic roof – which changes from solid to transparent at the push of a button-. A reminder that this car, despite its historical inspiration, is the future automotive screensaver for the 21st century.
Owners of the exclusive limited edition Countach LPI 800-4 can choose from a range of traditional exterior paint options, primarily in solid colors, such as the iconic Impact White, Giallo Countach, and Medium Green. Otherwise, the contemporary palette offers modern paintings, mostly metallic colors, such as Viola Pasifae or Blu Uranus.
A central 8.4 HDMI touchscreen exclusive to the LPI 800-4 manages in-car controls, including Connectivity and Apple CarPlay. It also includes a unique button titled Stile actioned explains the Countach design philosophy to its privileged audience.
With just 112 units produced, the number denotes the in-house project name LP 112, used during the development of the original Lamborghini Countach.
The Countach LPI 800-4 will begin distribution from the first quarter of 2022 to owners worldwide, who will have the privilege of driving a piece of automotive history reimagined for the future.
